CIVIL WAR DAYS AT PEDDLER’S VILLAGE

CIVIL WAR DAYS AT PEDDLER’S VILLAGE

(LAHASKA, PA)…Watch the Civil War brought to life at Peddler’s Village Civil War Days, Friday, May 11, through Sunday, May 13, on the Street Road Green. Free admission and parking.

Experience the thrill of a Civil War living history and reenactment! Travel back in time as you view reenactments of infantry, cavalry and artillery units in battle scenarios. Watch President Lincoln address the troops and deliver the Gettysburg Address. Walk through the confederate and union camps to see how the troops lived, attend a Civil War wedding, take a Candlelight Camp Tour and enjoy musical performances by the Providence Brigade Brass Band and the 69th PA Irish.

Civil War Days begins on Friday with a mid-day program for school and community groups from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Visit nine Living History stations on the following topics: A Soldier’s Life; Drill and Marching; Firing the Civil War Musket; Civil War Medicine; Officer in the Civil War; Artillery, Commissary, Women in the War and Abraham Lincoln. Reservations are recommended for school and community group visits on Friday, May 11. For more information and to make reservations, please call 215-794-4000.

The full day schedule on Saturday includes:

·        Civil War Wedding Reenactment at 11:30 a.m.
·        The Sixth New York Independent Battery Artillery Demonstrations at 2 p.m.
·        Providence Brigade Regimental Brass Band of Rhode Island at 3 p.m.
·        Battle Skirmish between the Union and Confederate troops at 4 p.m.
·        Candlelight Camp Tours at 8 p.m.
·        Bucks County Civil War Round Table featuring Lt. Edwin Fretz (PA 104th) Br. Gen. Francis Barlow
·        Civil War Heritage Foundation Longstreet Corp. featuring General Longstreet, General Kemper, Major Fairfax, Mrs. Kemper and Mrs. Fairfax
·        President Abraham Lincoln re-enactor
·        Daily Life of a Civil War soldier demonstrations
·        Sutler Camp (Civil War version of traveling peddler)

Philly Jazz: A View Through the Lens
Open daily during the month of April in the Commonwealth Plaza Gallery Space from 10am to 6pm, and later on performance evenings.

To celebrate National Jazz Appreciation Month, the Kimmel Center and Jazz Bridge, an organization dedicated to helping local jazz musicians in crisis, are mounting Philadelphia’s first ever all-jazz photography exhibition. Philly Jazz: A View through the Lens features the work of photographers Anthony Dean, L. David Hinton, Ben Johnson, and Howard Pitkow, and videographer Jason Fifield—who have been shooting the local jazz scene for years. The exhibition includes dynamic images of Philadelphia jazz artists caught in the act of improvisation, grief, mentorship, and mutual admiration. The images and film are extraordinary, providing a unique opportunity for fans to understand the local jazz community in all of its complexity and joy.

Everybody is a Curator: The New Anthropology

Now that technology puts a university’s worth of knowledge at our finger tips within a matter of seconds, what happens to local, regional knowledge and artifacts? Visitors, Friends, and Family:
It’s that time of year again when the Hemispherectomy Foundation has their yearly fundraiser 5K run. The kids & families that are helped by this foundation are just like our son Jordan, they were born with Hemimegalencephaly (and other varying diagnoses) and have little chance to live without a drastic brain surgery called Hemispherectomy which severs the bad half of the brain sending seizure activity through the affected child.  Our son Jordan sadly wasn’t a candidate for this surgery because of an abnormality on the “good” side of his brain and for those of you that don’t know, Jordan died shortly after his 2nd birthday.

This foundation is close to my heart & I love the families and kids that I have met through our very small (but, sadly growing) support group. They feel like family. New children are diagnosed too often and this foundation helps these families before, during, and after surgery (in SO many ways, please check out the website for more details).

Tribute to Velma Simmons

Conduction: J.A. Deane and the Creative Music Program

In the ’70s, musical pioneer Butch Morris developed Conduction–drawing on traditional conducting techniques to “play” improvising ensembles. This March, J.A. Deane, a student of Morris’ and an expert in Conduction, will give master classes, culminating in this exciting performance.
