Want to get the kids out of the house? We suggest the Garden State Discovery Museum in nearby Cherry Hill, NJ. It’s just a short 20-25 minute drive from Philly, conveniently located right off routes 70, 73, and I-295, that is well worth the drive.
This interactive museum gets four stars on InsiderPages and TripAdvisor, and was voted one of the top 20 children’s museums in the country by Child Magazine. You’ll instantly see why upon entering the 22,000 square foot space – aka an endless wonderland for imaginative and educational (don’t worry, they won’t know they’re learning) play. Even the shyest of kids come out of their shells when introduced to turtles, snakes, and tarantulas (if you can handle creatures with zero to eight legs.) And here’s some math you can get behind: $5 gets you one general admission ticket to the Garden State Discovery Museum good for the next six months ($10.95 value).
The best part of this hands-on museum is how it nurtures every budding personality. Your whippersnappers can pretend to be anything from scientists to hockey players in over 20 exhibits designed to challenge and motivate. Take sports fans over to the mini rink, sponsored by the Flyers, to work on their moves, give a play-by-play in the commentator’s box, and more. You’re already pretty well versed in gravitational and motion laws—grape juice thrown by your child will remain in motion until it hits the floor. But allow your wee ones to test Sir Isaac Newton’s theory of gravity for themselves. There’s also a doctor’s office (with a life-size Operation game table), vet and pet room, construction site, and more all available for hours of make-believe.
Reward them with face painting or visits to the bubble room, and take pleasure in bringing them home all tuckered out from a good, old-fashioned day of playing and learning. Already picturing your parent-of-the-year award? Grab a voucher for yourself and up to four to give as gifts (we can’t think of a better way to make Grandma and Grandpa smile).
