Tribute to Velma Simmons

The Kimmel Center’s Education Program honors Arts Education Legend Velma Simmons. Performers include the Philadelphia All-City and Creative and Performing Arts High School choirs, and Dance in the Schools participants Nueva Esperanza Academy Charter High School and Overbrook Educational Center, plus vocalists Valerie Gaye and Reginald Pindell.

Conduction: J.A. Deane and the Creative Music Program
Sun, Mar 25, 5:30pm
In the ’70s, musical pioneer Butch Morris developed Conduction–drawing on traditional conducting techniques to “play” improvising ensembles. This March, J.A. Deane, a student of Morris’ and an expert in Conduction, will give master classes, culminating in this exciting performance.

Belleville Quartet

Belleville Quartet is a West Philly based acoustic jazz ensemble whose repertoire ranges from French gypsy jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt to the folk songs of Serbia, Romania, Macedonia and beyond.

Geator Dance Party with DJ Mark the Spark
Sat, Apr 7, 6pm
Prior to and immediately following Jerry Blavat’s 10th Anniversary Extravaganza in Verizon Hall, DJ Mark the Spark returns to host a free dance party in Commonwealth Plaza!
